Dawn

1.

There is a denseness here

thick and slow

the air smothers

like a dark blanket

The night narrows

into a crouching corner

waiting…

As the gray

morning struggles

to the surface

2.

I can write a poem about

grief

How the heart’s door slams

shut

And everything just

S    T    O    P    S

 time and its heavy anchor

cementing me

beneath the dark waves

of this stifling sea

  1. Crouching corners, love the feel to it.
    Pulling surge. .

  2. you work the dark really, really well. the lines from, “time from it’s heavy anchor,” etc are really good. i think you may have mentioned who your influence was, but i can’t seem to remember.

    • Thanks. I’m glad you continue to read, because I know the blog has been a bit dark. The influence here was the unexpected death of a friend.

      • anytime. be not concerned as to the dark as i run with it to in different fashions. i suppose i should have been more clearer as to influences as to who has inspired the darkness to your pen. you may have mentioned it, but can’t remember it.

  3. I saw the dawn as light, but your heavy, dark images have made me rethink things, seeing it afresh (which to me is the sign of powerful words). Your words are beautiful and haunting and I can certainly can relate to the emotions.
